We are deeply sorry to report that cancer claims the life of another one of our recently retired brothers... Brother Anthony Martinez.
Anthony was Sarasota County Firefighter Paramedic #460 serving from 10-16-89 thru 10-18-2013. He was a revered member of the Sarasota County Fire Department, known for his knowledge, excellent skills, and compassion as a Paramedic. He was a jovial, selfless, quiet, humble man, that had an unflappable calmness to his nature. His actions spoke louder than words and garnered the deepest respect from his Officers, peers, students and constituents. He utilized those characteristics and gifts to teach 100's of new EMT's and Paramedics the best practices and to keep their head in the game from start to finish. His professional ethics and teaching legacy will live on thru the hands and minds that learned from him. I always appreciated knowing this class act guy was our backup when we worked at neighboring stations on B-shift. Things only got better when "Ant" arrived.
Anthony has two fantastic sons that followed in their father's footsteps with Sarasota County Fire Department as Firefighter Paramedics, Dane and Dustin. Our hearts go out to his wonderful wife and soulmate of 39 years Dixie, his children, and grandchildren.
Anthony lost his battle to pancreatic cancer on April 20, the day before Easter at age 62. While we all mourn his passing and the void that his absence created, we can rest assured that he is where he wanted to go when the Lord called him home. Anthony celebrated Easter on his first shift in Heaven. Please offer prayers for healing and peace for his family.
Gone but not forgotten... R.I.P. Brother Anthony Martinez #460
